The Eagle River Plan Commission on March 5 recommended that City Council approve the Eagle River Lions Club’s plans to build municipal restrooms at Gremban Park behind City Hall.
Mike Sanborn of the Lions Club presented final plans and described several changes from the draft. He said gable ends will be sided rather than block, venting details may change, and the club has considered using clear block in parts of the building to improve sight lines to police cameras. The restrooms will feature magnetic locking doors with timed locks, and fixtures will be stainless steel. Sanborn said sewer service will be extended from 3rd Street at the Lions Club’s expense; council previously approved water and electric service from City Hall.
Commissioners discussed visibility and safety. Police Chief Salvinski recommended the restroom doors face east so they are visible to cameras mounted on the existing garage, and commissioners compared the proposed structure to the public restrooms at Riverview Park.
Commissioner Mary Horant moved and Commissioner Adam Grassl seconded a motion recommending City Council approve the Lions Club plan. The motion carried on a roll-call vote: ayes from Horant, Grassl, Schaffer and Forer; Commissioner John Hletko abstained, citing his long-term membership in the Lions Club.
The commission’s recommendation will be forwarded to City Council for final action.
