Elk Mound hears public works and fire department updates; issues several permits
Summary
Public works reported a repaired backup generator and reviewed the WPDES permit; the fire department signed a new MOU, is equipping Engine 5 and applied for a DNR UTV grant; right-of-way and a manufactured-home permits were issued.
Director of Public Works Mark Levra presented the Water/Sewer Report and reported that the backup generator has been repaired. Levra also reviewed the WPDES permit effective April 1, 2025; the board took no action on the permit during the meeting.
The Fire Department reported seven calls for service in the month and current membership of 20. Chief Feuster told the board that all three fire-district members signed a new Memorandum of Understanding, which is now available for public review. Department personnel continue work to outfit Engine 5 and have obtained quotes to replace restroom floors. The department has applied for a UTV grant from the Department of Natural Resources.
The board issued permits to Charter Spectrum for a 196-foot directional bore in the right-of-way, to Colleen Barber (103 University Street) to place a 28-by-60-foot manufactured home, to 24-7 Telecom to install fiber optic in the right-of-way, and to Xcel Energy to install gas service. The clerk’s minutes also record community and regional notices, including a planned nine-municipality solid-waste meeting April 29 and a Drug Take Back Day on April 26.
Trustees discussed community concerns about trash along Highway 12 and noted the county highway department was contacted about pickup.
