Eden board sets Sept. 17 hearing on DNR floodplain revisions; agrees to investigate neighborhood swale flooding

The Village of Eden Board voted unanimously on Aug. 20 to approve a draft of Floodplain Ordinance revisions recommended by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and set a public hearing for Sept. 17, 2024, at 6:30 p.m., with the monthly board meeting immediately following.
Jay Baumhardt moved to approve the draft revisions and set the hearing; Henry Guell seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The meeting record lists the draft as coming from the DNR; the board did not adopt the ordinance at the meeting but scheduled the public hearing to solicit comment.
During discussion the record shows neighbors raised concerns about a residential swale on Southgate Drive. Minutes state plantings and landscaping are obstructing the natural flow of water and creating flooding problems for nearby properties. The board said it will look into the reported obstruction.
The board did not record adoption of any ordinance language at the meeting; the next formal action on the ordinance will occur after the public hearing.
