Village staff announced that the first official meeting of the Friends of Elmwood Library will be held Thursday, Nov. 21. The group plans to elect officers, review and vote on bylaws, and finalize a memorandum of understanding describing how volunteers and the independent nonprofit will collaborate with the library.
The announcement explained that Friends organizations are independent nonprofit groups that focus on fundraising, volunteering and raising awareness to increase access to grants and reduce requests for direct municipal funding.
Library-related fundraising will support projects such as the library roof; the clerk noted that proceeds from an early-Thanksgiving-dinner fundraiser scheduled for Nov. 23 will go toward that purpose.
The library initiative will provide a vehicle for local supporters to organize fundraising and volunteer efforts; the board recorded the announcement but took no formal vote on formation at this meeting.
