Elm Grove Building Board approves several home additions and alterations

The Elm Grove Building Board approved a series of residential alterations and additions during its Jan. 6 meeting, unanimously passing motions on several homeowner requests.
The board approved a request from Max and Susan Meinerz to change the previously approved roof color on their Green Meadow home from Owens Corning "sandcastle" to "peppercorn." Susan Meinerz told the board she found the sandcastle shade to read orange and preferred a more classic, timeless color; the board approved the change 6-0.
Also approved was a 340-square-foot screened porch for Bill and Joanne Drobyski at 13305 Oakhurst Drive. Builder Chet Holmes said the porch will meet the village setback and coverage requirements and that screen frames, stairs and the landing will be beige to match the existing house. The board approved the addition contingent on submission of material and color samples and an update to the west elevation in plan view; vote 6-0.
A larger addition for Tom and Holly Shepherd at 1040 Katherine Drive was approved after the design team described a 750-square-foot rear addition with a prairie-style hip roof and a second-story element with a dormer aligned to the existing rooflines. Architect Stephen Vebber said the design seeks to keep the new portion from dominating the existing house; an egress window will be added on the north side. Assistant Village Manager Ethan Sowl clarified the property's legal description references two lots but that it is a single parcel for setback purposes. Motion passed 6-0.
The board also approved a 434-square-foot garage addition for George and Colleen Alex at 1055 Highland Drive. Chairman Olson noted a preference to recess a new single garage door behind the existing door where feasible, but said site constraints preclude that on this property. The owners will replace exterior lighting to match; motion passed 6-0.
Finally, the board approved alterations for Jeff and Elizabeth Lyvers at 865 Morningside Lane to replace a deteriorated deck with a roofed structure reusing an existing beam and column, replace a sliding door with two windows and install wood paneling to echo a rear bump-out; materials and colors will match the existing home. Motion passed 6-0.
Each approved item was recorded with the contingency or plan updates noted by board members where applicable. The meeting adjourned at 6:24 p.m.
