Elk Mound Fire Department reports three calls, equipment repairs and work on a billing ordinance

At the Dec. 18 meeting, the Elk Mound Fire Board reported three monthly calls, ongoing repairs to Engine 5, a Compeer Financial grant purchase, and that Chief Fuester is working with an attorney on a proposed billing ordinance for cost recovery of fire suppression and cleanup.
The Elk Mound Fire Board reported that the department responded to three calls in the month reported and currently has 21 members. Chief Fuester told the board he is working with the municipal attorney on a proposed billing ordinance intended to allow the participating municipalities to recover costs for extinguishing fires and cleanup operations.
The department is continuing repairs to Engine 5, including painting and new leaf springs, and has made building improvements such as installing new LED lighting and purchasing a new TV for training. The department received a Compeer Financial grant that funded a new electric ventilation fan. The board also discussed moving its operating bank account to Independence State Bank and authorizing signers for the account.
Billing for a specific fire at 113 Juniper Avenue was discussed; the minutes record that billing was considered but do not record a vote or final decision on that particular invoice. No formal ordinance or billing policy was adopted at the Dec. 18 meeting; Chief Fuester reported the ordinance remains in development with legal counsel.
