Elmwood board approves purchase of two auditorium furnaces

The Elmwood Village Board voted on Jan. 13 to buy two new furnaces for the municipal auditorium and to replace a failed unit immediately after staff reported parts are no longer available for the existing equipment.
Paul Unser moved to purchase two furnaces and to replace the failed unit as soon as possible; Dawn Toth seconded and the motion carried on a roll-call vote. Officials said the furnaces currently in the auditorium are the same year and model, and staff warned the second unit is likely to fail soon if not replaced. The meeting did not include a price for the replacement furnaces; cost and funding source were not specified during the discussion.
Clerk/Treasurer Holly Malaszuk gave additional finance updates: the January 2025 settlement distributions reported were $103,654 to the County, $19,111 to CVTC, $201,853 to Elmwood School and $106,587 retained by the Village. She also said CLA will begin the 2024 audit on Feb. 10 and that the village office will be closed Jan. 20 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Malaszuk said she will be working remotely for a short period and that staff member Lexi Dominik will staff the office during regular hours.
Police and department operations items were also reported in the same agenda section: staff met with Citizens State Bank on policy matters, coordinated school safety drill debriefs, updated a department rifle through C&R Guns in River Falls and established an account for annual firearms inspection and maintenance. The department reported 14 calls for service for Elmwood PD and 18 calls requiring response from Pierce County Sheriff during the referenced period.
The board did not vote on any changes to budget line items at the Jan. 13 meeting; members directed staff to proceed with the furnace replacements and report back with cost details if required.
