Ogdensburg advances storm‑drain grant work, approves Little Free Library; FBLA seeks veterans partnership

The Ogdensburg Borough Council used its Nov. 9 meeting to move forward on local infrastructure grants and community projects.
Councilman Nardini reported progress on two grants — one to repair catch basins and another for work on Plant Street — saying he, the mayor and engineer Mike Vreeland are preparing paperwork and will map which catch basins to fix; he said Plant Street grant awards must be made by March 2021. The council discussed timelines and the need for another month or two to assemble plans and cost estimates.
On a community project, Councilwoman O'Dell moved and Councilwoman Slater seconded approval of a Little Free Library to be sited at the Plant Street soccer field; the motion was approved by roll call. Attorney Robert McBriar had earlier summarized the request and said the council would accept the plan as proposed.
During public comment, Brian Hall, representing Wallkill Valley Regional High School’s FBLA chapter, described a student project to honor veterans from the borough’s four sending districts (Franklin, Hardyston, Ogdensburg and Hamburg) and asked the borough to partner. Mayor George P. Hutnick directed Hall to contact retired Police Chief and VFW organizer George Lott for veterans’ records and asked Hall to submit a formal plan.
The council also corrected a recent news report mischaracterizing ambulance coverage; Mayor Hutnick said Sparta ambulance squad is not covering Ogdensburg and that reporting would be corrected on the record.
The council adjourned at 7:25 p.m.
