Residents propose 'trick-or-trunk' and Little Free Library; council asks for written proposals

Public comment at the Oct. 14 Ogdensburg council meeting included two community-driven proposals. Jane Kruger, who identified herself as part of the Ogdensburg PTO, suggested using the borough ball field for a "trick-or-trunk" event as an outdoor alternative to door-to-door trick-or-treating and noted she had consulted health-department guidance and Mr. Astor. "What if there was trick or trunk done on the ball field at the fire house," she asked, adding the fire department saw no problem but the field is borough property and use depends on weather and field conditions.

Mayor George P. Hutnick said the borough would check field usage, consider potential rental or ownership questions (school property vs. borough property) and be mindful of rain and soil conditions that could make vehicle access impractical. He asked organizers to coordinate with town staff.

Krista Hornyak, a resident of 80 Plant Street, proposed installing a Little Free Library by the Bridge Street soccer field, noting the location sees heavy pedestrian traffic from walkers and soccer games. She was advised to prepare a written proposal describing the structure, program management and maintenance responsibilities and to submit it to the clerk for review at the next meeting. Hornyak was also told the field may be DEP-owned and that a backup location should be identified if required.

Both items were recorded as public comments; the council did not take formal action but provided procedural guidance: check property ownership and submit written proposals for formal consideration.
