Library reports outreach success; council appoints Tourism Commission members

At the Jan. 14 Common Council meeting, Library Director Bronna Lehmann read a written report highlighting outreach and programming: the Prairie Lakes Library System is coordinating a second mailing of 5,128 postcards to residents who moved or changed ZIP codes in Rock, Walworth and Racine counties between July 1 and Nov. 30; the system’s first mailing in June yielded a 40% increase in library-card applications. Lehmann also noted that a free MasterClass membership is available to cardholders and that Public Works completed replacement of light bulbs in the library’s original section.
Lehmann previewed scheduled programs for March–May and near-term events including Penguin Science Day on Jan. 25, a teen waffle-making program on Feb. 7, a SOUPer Bowl soup meal on Feb. 8, and a Friends of the Library used-book sale set for Feb. 6–8 in the Grange Building.
Separately, the council approved appointments to the Tourism Commission for one-year terms ending Jan. 2026. The mayor listed appointees during the mayoral communications item; Alderperson Cory Neeley made the motion to appoint. Named appointees were Lindsey Kennedy (lodging industry representative), Sue Berg (Economic Development Committee member) of 321 Garfield Ave, Jim Brooks (alderperson), Abbey Barnes (business owner) of 228 W Main St, Rhonda Fahey (Creekside member), Ben Corridon (citizen member), and Shawn Dunphy (Executive Director, Evansville Chamber of Commerce) of 213 Maple St. The motion passed 8-0 by roll call.
Clerk Leah Hurtley also noted she is temporarily handling some treasurer duties while City Treasurer Julie Roberts is absent.
The library’s outreach and tourism appointments were recorded without dissent.
