Library director outlines summer reading plans, roof replacement and community outreach

Library Director Bronna Lehmann summarized several library initiatives and facility plans during the May 12 council meeting.
Lehmann said spring school visits promoted the library’s summer programs; the April 25 Wonder Whale and fossil exhibit attracted 256 people. The library will hold a summer reading kickoff event, “Escape Jurassic Library,” on June 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; reading programs for children, teens and adults will run through Aug. 7. Lehmann thanked the Bank of New Glarus for a $500 gift to fund book prizes and noted the Friends of the Library cover remaining program costs.
On facilities, Lehmann reported work to replace a clay tile roof is scheduled to begin June 15; tile manufacturing is expected to be completed in the first week of June. Staff are meeting community groups to identify needs and outreach opportunities.
