Evansville names Evansville Examiner official newspaper despite mayor27s concerns about accuracy

The Evansville Common Council voted unanimously April 21 to designate the Evansville Examiner as the city27s official newspaper for a one-year term.
On a motion by Ben Corridon, seconded by Erika Stuart, the Council approved the Examiner as the city27s certified local newspaper (motion passed 7-0). Mayor Abbey Barnes said the paper is the city27s only local certified option but raised concerns based on prior experiences with slow turnaround and inaccurate reporting. A representative of the Evansville Examiner responded to those concerns, stating that new representatives have been assigned to cover the city.
Designating an official newspaper determines where the city publishes legal notices and public announcements. The motion carried without recorded opposition.
