Evansville council approves zoning update after 6-1 vote

The Evansville Common Council voted 6-1 on Feb. 10 to adopt Ordinance #2026-01, which updates Division 17 (Residential District Three) of Chapter 130 (Zoning). Alderperson Abbey Barnes moved the ordinance; Alderperson Bill Lathrop seconded. Alderperson Chuck Boyce was the lone no vote.
Colette Spranger, the city's Community Development Director, presented the staff report and overview of changes recommended by the Plan Commission. The ordinance modifies zoning standards for the city's Residential District Three; the council did not specify an effective date during the meeting.
Separately, the council approved a final Certified Survey Map adjusting the boundaries of parcels 6-27-904 and 6-27-905 on a 7-0 vote. The council attached two conditions before signing the map: first, the applicant must work with the city to create an easement for conservation and recreational use within the floodway and the city will initiate a zoning change for that area from R-2 to C-1 (Lowland Conservation); second, the final map must be recorded with the Rock County Register of Deeds.
The council record shows the Plan Commission forwarded the items and Spranger covered the staff analysis. No public hearing item was recorded for the ordinance action during this meeting. The council adjourned at 7:08 p.m.
