Gilmanton administrators report donations, grants, bus repairs and staffing shifts

School administrators reported several operational updates at the Jan. 19 School District of Gilmanton board meeting, citing community donations, small grants, program activity and transportation and staffing challenges.
Principal Brad Bryan described a $15,000 donation from Marjorie and Friends of Prairie Moon intended to support arts programs; anticipated uses include upgrades to the concert sound system and purchases of new instruments. Bryan also reported a $500 grant from Wisconsin Agriculture in the Classroom and the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Foundation for greenhouse supplies; he said purchasing will be coordinated with Karli Keys. The district received a $248 grant from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction for robotics.
Administrators Jamey Davis and Kory Rud reported turnover among bus drivers affecting route staffing; Bus 13 is in the shop for engine diagnostics and the district is reviewing quotes to rebuild or buy a remanufactured engine while attempting repair of the existing unit. Facilities work included a 3rd-floor roof repair the week of Jan. 12 to address leaks and cracks.
Kory Rud said the after-school program is near break-even year to date (revenues $4,739; expenditures $4,923) with average daily participation of 6–10 students. Ms. Shoemaker assumed elementary music duties on Jan. 5 with revised hours (9:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.); concert dates were set for March 30 (middle/high school) and April 22 (elementary). The board noted that a Gilmanton Community Club donation funded free school breakfast and lunch in December and those funds carried into January; Cheyenne Steiner requested to borrow district banquet tables for a March benefit.
District leaders said they have a virtual-instruction contingency plan should winter weather further reduce instructional time. The board reviewed the budget report and identified no major areas of concern.
Administrators will continue recruitment for bus drivers and custodial/library support; no formal board action was taken on those items at the meeting.
