Gilman officials report on sewer meetings, PFAS funds, hydrants and 18 police complaints

At the Oct. 8 meeting of the Village of Gilman board, Clerk/Treasurer Candice Grunseth and department heads gave routine but substantive updates on sewer work, budget items and public-safety activity.
Grunseth told the board the clerk's packet includes notes on recent EPA meetings related to sewer work, a planned presentation at the WEDC summit next week, and receipt of a PFAS settlement check. She also said she is working on a draft 2026 budget and provided quarterly water and sewer reports for review.
Police Chief Tom Tallier presented a written report and said the department recorded 18 new complaints in September. Tallier recommended closing a cleanup case involving Mike Slaughter on the grounds that he believed the cleanup would continue; the board recorded no objection to closing the case.
Public Works Director Dave Kroeplin reported on meetings with the EPA tied to sewer work, identified fire hydrants that require repair and said the department plans hydrant flow testing; he also noted the village park would be closed (details in the packet).
The board did not take formal action on sewer funding at this meeting; Grunseth noted an intent to apply for sewer-related assistance but the clerk recorded that no action was required.
