Gilmanton board reviews referendum financial model, MLSS pilot and extracurricular participation

The administration provided referendum materials from CESA 10 that included guidance on appropriate advocacy activities. Marquez Guzman of Baird joined the meeting remotely to review a financial model prepared for the district, answering questions about revenue limits, enrollment projections, state funding expectations, expense assumptions, spring election timing and fund balance targets. The presentation was informational; the board did not take formal action on referendum planning at the meeting.
Principal Brad Bryan reported that Ms. Shoemaker will continue teaching music for at least the remainder of the school year, will collaborate with Brittany Peterson on the district Christmas program, and then will take over elementary music instruction for the rest of the year. Bryan also said that administrators plan to pilot a Multi-Level System of Supports (MLSS) at the middle school over a two- to four-year period in response to state report card outcomes and student needs.
Dean of Students Jay Hebert told the board that student behavior has been very positive this year and that the administrative team is continuing efforts to improve student attitudes toward standardized testing and overall academic performance.
Kory Rud reported on extracurriculars and operations: middle-school e-sports are in development; the district is making progress hiring a Lead Cook; the district mobile app is being developed; and the after-school program has paused Friday activities while participation during the rest of the week remains steady. Rud also reported cooperative sports participation rates of 19% for grades 6-8 (basketball, powerlifting) and 37% for high school (basketball, wrestling, powerlifting), with middle-school wrestling and girls basketball scheduled to start in January and expected to increase those numbers.
No formal votes or directives on referendum timing or scope were recorded in the minutes; staff and the board are continuing planning work.
