Historic‑district panel approves 17 replacement windows at 34 Main Street

The Hollis Historic District Commission on May 7 approved an application from homeowner John Brackett to replace 17 windows on the main portion of his house at 34 Main Street.

Brackett told the commission the parcels of Marvin Ultimate six‑over‑six windows were custom made to a 5/8‑inch sash bar to match the existing frames and would be visible from the street. He said the project will remove deteriorated aluminum storm windows and restore the three‑dimensional appearance that, in his view, reflects the house’s historic look.

The commission asked whether the grille work was surface‑mounted or between panes and confirmed the proposed trim and exterior appearance match the submitted photos. Members noted the applicant previously replaced windows on the property under an earlier application and that the new units use the same division pattern.

With no unresolved design concerns, the chair moved to approve the application as submitted; a commissioner seconded the motion and members voted in favor. Commissioners reminded the applicant to obtain the required building permit before installation.

The approval covers the 17 windows visible from Main Street and is conditioned on the applicant securing the building permit and installing the windows as shown on the submitted elevations. The commission did not record a roll‑call tally in the hearing record beyond the voice vote.
