Council approves fleet and equipment purchases including loader, dump truck and trailer

The West Yellowstone Town Council approved several public‑works purchase orders Tuesday, authorizing replacement and support equipment the department said is needed for snow removal, road work and equipment transport.
Public Works detailed cost comparisons, trade‑in values and warranty packages. For the loader purchase (PO 7093), staff presented quotes showing a Case loader offered a significant cost savings and a three‑year warranty included in price; the council approved the purchase, which included trading an older unit.
Council also approved PO 7105 to purchase a used 2021 Freightliner dump truck (Floyd's Truck Center) after staff described recent repairs, an oil analysis showing no engine issues and trade‑in value on an old unit. A Case HD14 snow blade (PO 7005) and a Trail King TK trailer (PO 7107) were also approved; staff argued the trailer will reduce recurring towing and transport costs and improve safety when hauling equipment for off‑site repairs.
Each of the purchase orders passed on a voice vote. Staff said the purchases are timed to replace aging equipment, lower long‑term maintenance costs, and improve winter operations.
Council minutes record the approvals and include staff explanations of warranties, trade‑in values and expected ten‑year service lives for the new units.
