Whitehall council advances two ordinances to second reading, approves garbage contract increase

The Whitehall Town Council on July 15 voted to advance two ordinances to a second reading and approved a payment increase for the town’s garbage contractor.
Council voted to move Ordinance 2024-1, which would establish procedures and requirements for construction, deployment and maintenance of telecommunications networks within the town rights-of-way, to a second reading. Roy McBride made the motion to advance the ordinance; Pat Peterson seconded and the motion passed.
The council also advanced Ordinance 2024-2, a measure to authorize classifying certain town offenses as municipal infractions and to prescribe enforcement procedures, penalties and appeal rights, to a second reading. Linda Jung moved the ordinance forward; Pat Peterson seconded and the motion passed.
On a separate matter, the council approved a payment increase request for Whitehall Garbage. Roy McBride moved the approval and Bill Lanes seconded; the motion passed. The minutes record the council’s approval but do not specify the dollar amount of the increase.
The council tabled several items for further documentation or later consideration. A remote work agreement with Kennedy Kleinsasser was tabled until November 2024 after a motion by Linda Jung and a second by Pat Peterson. A requested increase to the court clerk contract was tabled pending presentation of records showing a documented increase in workload; Pat Peterson moved to table and Roy McBride seconded.
The council also approved routine business on the consent agenda and signed the bill/claim approval list before adjourning. The next regular meeting was set for Aug. 19, 2024, at 7 p.m.
