Parks committee recommends dusk-to-dawn playground hours, asks city to adopt donation policy

At its Oct. 29 meeting the Parks Advisory Committee recommended that the City adopt dusk-to-dawn hours for playgrounds and asked the liaison to pursue a formal donation policy governing collection and tracking of donations.
Chair Tressa Blair moved and Jen Fraze seconded a recommendation that the City adopt dusk-to-dawn hours for playgrounds; the committee approved the recommendation unanimously. Liaison Pattie Berg described the draft donation policy as intended to ensure donations (for example, $20 found in the McStravick Park donation box) are collected and tracked with appropriate checks and balances; the committee directed her to ask the City to adopt the policy.
Committee members also discussed recruiting for a third committee seat; Liaison Berg reported outreach to Nancy Schlepp and recommended contacting the Extension Service’s Mikayla Bowling to identify potential candidates. Jen Fraze said she will create an extra key for the McStravick donation box and will turn both keys over to the City.
The committee confirmed an approximate $500 budget for any park opening events and noted a $700 line for Joanna’s Park rails. The next committee meeting is scheduled for Nov. 12, 2024 at 5:00 p.m.
