Courtney Long of Great West Engineering told the White Sulphur Springs Parks Advisory Committee on Aug. 8 that the consultant will develop outreach materials and conduct a site visit before winter as part of a CDBG-funded Recreation Master Plan process.
The consultant described a sequence of steps for the plan: an on‑site visit to inventory current recreation assets, public outreach that could include surveys, posters and ads, and development of a decision‑guidance tool to help city leaders evaluate proposed recreation projects. Great West noted a volunteer survey effort in Big Timber that produced about 200 responses as an example of public engagement the city could emulate.
Committee members asked the consultant to aim for more than a handful of public comments; committee members offered to host sessions at local venues such as the Stevens Youth Center and the Community/Senior Center to broaden participation. The committee also agreed to provide a previously prepared recreation asset map to Great West to inform the master‑planning work.
Pattie Berg, the City Council liaison, confirmed the Mayor would likely be the primary city contact for the grant, and Great West said its immediate next step is to prepare a Task Order for City Council approval. Committee members will be invited to the site visit. Great West left the meeting after the briefing.
The consultant’s Task Order is expected to be submitted for Council consideration by the next City Council meeting; the master plan will proceed following Council authorization and the planned public outreach.
