Whitehall council tables pool fundraising policy pending purchase-order language; pool set to open in June

The Whitehall Town Council on April 21 tabled an amendment to the Pool Fundraising Fund (Fund 2393) spending policy so it can include a requirement that expenditures follow the town's purchase-order system.
Katy James, council member, read the proposed policy and said fundraising money should be used for fundraising only unless the general fund is exhausted. Roy McBride asked that any use go through the purchase-order system. After discussion, James moved to table the policy until that purchase-order language is added; Linda Jung seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Kelley Seccomb, Pool Board member, told the council that bathroom construction at the pool is progressing, floors will be painted after the bathrooms are finished, new and returning lifeguards have been hired and the pool is tentatively scheduled to open on June 13. Seccomb said trainings are set for May and that lifeguard hires will need formal council approval before they can be paid.
The council did not adopt any spending changes at the April 21 meeting; it instructed staff to return the policy with the requested purchase-order statement for consideration at a future meeting.
What happens next: the policy will be revised to include purchase-order procedures, returned for council approval, and staff will present lifeguard appointments for formal approval.
