Board members voted to approve the planting of a commemorative tree and a time capsule on town property as part of Howell Celebrates America's 250th and approved a marker placement on the common. The board also approved four special license applications covering events at Monument Square, the Congregational Church of Hollis and the Lawrence Barn on dates in July 2026.
Dave Sullivan (Historical Society) also announced a partnership with the Hollis Brookline Rotary to place American flags along Main Street on major holidays beginning Memorial Day; the board expressed support and indicated no formal vote was required.
Members discussed town policy that restricts inflatable "bouncy houses" and noted an exception process exists; the town's insurance carrier has indicated liability decisions rest with the town. The board asked event organizers to work with recreation and insurance staff and to present required contracts, insurance binders and sign approvals at the July Select Board meeting.
All motions on the 250th items and special licenses were approved by voice vote. The board asked staff and committee organizers to ensure DigSafe and DPW coordination for field impacts and to provide insurance documentation where exceptions to the inflatable restriction are requested.
