Winifred council adopts Resolution 11-2025 to cancel uncontested election and approves routine bills

The Winifred Town Council voted to adopt Resolution 11-2025 at its Oct. 14 meeting, stating the town’s intent to cancel the Nov. 4, 2025 general election for certain municipal officers because the number of candidates equals or is less than the number of open seats.
Kristin Carlstrom moved to accept Resolution 11-2025 and Zach Sharp seconded; the council approved the resolution. The minutes note that both mayoral and council positions were running unopposed. The clerk was directed to file the appropriate notice and inform candidates of the cancellation.
The council also handled routine administrative business: it approved the meeting agenda; accepted the Sept. 9 and Sept. 24 meeting minutes; approved the monthly claims that included invoices to Aqua Tech, Fergus Electric, Republic Services, Stahly Engineering, Winifred Grocery and others; and accepted August and September bank reconciliations and financial reports for the Pool, Library, Museum, Airport, Asbjornson and Cemetery.
Postmaster Shelby Smith requested replacement of the post office floor, which the council authorized the clerk to pursue by requesting a bid from Rich Bowen. The council also agreed to declare the mower shed at the airport obsolete and advertise it for sealed bids to close at the Nov. 4 meeting. Council will have schoolchildren prepare certificates to thank volunteers who donated time and materials to repair the cemetery access road.
The meeting adjourned after these administrative matters were completed.
