Winifred council says street widths meet standards, approves park lot purchase tied to paving project

Mayor Shirley Dyer reported that contractor Century Construction is continuing paving and curb installation on Campbell Street and is expected to move to the north side of town within several weeks. Council members discussed a concern raised by resident Steve Ehlert that some streets were too narrow; after discussion the council concluded the streets meet standard widths and did not take action to change curb or pavement plans.
The mayor also said the town purchased two lots from Harley Skinner while Century worked on the storm drain in the park. One lot was necessary for the street project; the other lot will be added to the park. The minutes record that the council approved the purchase as part of the bill payments earlier in the meeting.
Kurt Thomson said he would speak with Century Construction about installing fencing around the park’s settling pond to address safety or operational concerns.
Next steps: paving and curb work will continue, Kurt Thomson will consult with the contractor about pond fencing, and the town will incorporate the newly purchased lot into park planning.
