Winifred council reviews street-paving open house, pool prep and water-line repairs

Councilors reviewed several infrastructure and maintenance items at the May 13 meeting, including street paving outreach, pool preparations, and multiple water-system repairs.
Stahly Engineering and Century Construction held a public open house from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. to display maps of proposed paving and sidewalks; attendee Kurt Thomson said it was a good turnout and that landowners’ questions were answered. The council will continue to receive public questions as the paving work proceeds.
Mayor Shirley Dyer said she will send Jeremy Carr a letter seeking clarification on the work needed to get the pool ready to open. Kristin Carlstrom said she will continue collecting lifeguard fees and turning them into the town office; several new lifeguards will attend classes.
Cody Isom reported a leak in a coulee south of the last vent near a meter pit; the council plans to contact Griffith Contracting to perform repairs. Separately, the bulk water line located on Nick Econom’s land is broken; the minutes note the old line sits in a swampy area and that replacing it likely requires written permission from the landowner and easement paperwork because the repair could involve substantial digging.
The council also discussed fire-hall siding and removal of an old bell whose supporting wood is rotten; Rick Baker will obtain a quote and arrange removal. Regarding obsolete hydrants, the council concluded that the hydrants must be put out to bid before disposition.
