Terrebonne Parish board approves FEMA-funded student drop-off projects at two elementary schools

The Terrebonne Parish School Board on July 7 approved notices to proceed and budgets for two student drop-off projects, each budgeted at $363,983 with the majority of funds coming from FEMA improvement project funding.
The board authorized GFP Design to proceed with a secondary student drop-off at Upper Little Cayo Elementary with a total budget of $363,983, of which FEMA improvement project funding will provide $327,584.70 and local funds will provide $36,398.30. The buildings, food service and transportation committee also recommended The Maryland Group be issued a notice to proceed for a similar secondary student drop-off at Grand Cayo Elementary with the same budget and funding split. Both recommendations included authorization to advertise bids and directed that any major project changes be reported back to the committee before advertising.
Matthew Ford, speaking in committee discussion, characterized the projects as safety improvements and emphasized the high federal share: "This is an opportunity for us to make our schools safer... we're doing so with 90% of it coming from the federal government," Ford said.
The board moved and approved the notices to proceed and budgets by voice vote; motions were seconded and no objections were recorded in the transcript.
