Boone County names Megan Bonte as new emergency management director

Bonte introduced herself to the board, saying, “I am Megan Bonte. I'm your new EMA director as of now. I have multiple years experience in emergency management.” She added that she has worked with many counties across the state and is "excited to work at the county level and bring a lot of emergency preparedness and planning to the county."
The appointment was handled as an unscheduled addition to new business after the retirement of the prior EMA director. Commissioners did not discuss a search process or a transition timeline during the public portion of the meeting. The board moved promptly from the appointment to other agenda items after Bonte’s brief introduction.
The county will publish formal onboarding steps and any reporting lines in forthcoming staff materials, according to the meeting record. The commission did not set an immediate follow-up meeting specifically for EMA transition matters.
