Greenland — At its Feb. 9 meeting, the Board of Selectmen reviewed the Jan. 31 Deliberative Session, planned updates to the town Voter’s Guide and discussed logistics and explanations ahead of the SB2 ballot vote scheduled for March 10.
Town Administrator Tara Tucker briefed the board on follow-ups from the Deliberative Session, including updates to informational materials that will be posted to the town website and Facebook page and made available in print. Tucker said the Board will add clarifying text to the Voter’s Guide and materials to address questions raised at the Deliberative Session.
The Board noted a warrant article concerning the Land Use Change Tax (LUCT) was amended at the Deliberative Session from directing the "first $25,000" to allocating "100% of the LUCT collected." Tucker and board members said the change prompted questions during deliberative debate, and they asked staff to provide a clearer explanation of the amendment's effect for voters. The minutes do not include a fiscal estimate of the change’s dollar impact.
Tucker reminded the board that, under the SB2 process, voting on Town and School budgets will take place Tuesday, March 10, at Greenland School, with polls open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. She said one Board member must be present at polling locations at all times and that Laura Malloy and Paul Stanley will be unable to cover shifts because they are on the ballot.
The board also received routine updates: Susan Parker had arranged a salt ship tour for Feb. 11; Tucker said she will meet with Municipal Resources Inc. (MRI) later in the week to review 2025 financials; the 2024 audit from Plodzik & Sanderson remains delayed. Stephan Toth raised the question of illuminating two 'Welcome to Greenland' signs and asked J. Lord to research solar lighting options and associated risks.
The Board did not take further votes on these procedural items during the meeting; staff were assigned to clarify voter materials and research options as noted.
