The Grantham Board of Selectmen on Oct. 22 unanimously authorized Police Chief John Parsons to purchase a 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe Pursuit, including upfitting, for an amount not to exceed $82,000 to be paid from Capital Reserve Fund #550.
Chief John Parsons told the board that 2025 models are available now and that a comparable 2025 Tahoe is priced at $54,976 at the dealer, with total cost after upfitting projected between $70,000 and $80,000. "With the upfitting, the price will be approximately $80,000 and that does include the trade in," Parsons said, and added that some equipment from the 2021 Charger — radar, radio, cruiser camera system and racks — can be transferred to the new vehicle.
Parsons said waiting for 2026 models would likely increase the base price by about $2,300 and raise upfitting costs because new components would need to be purchased. He told the board he expects dealer parts to arrive by December and estimated a two‑to‑three week turnaround for upfitting, putting the vehicle into service in the first or second week of January.
Selectman Jeremy Walla moved the authorization; Selectman Peter Garland seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
The board did not discuss financing beyond the stated reimbursement from CRF #550 or any additional fleet purchases at the meeting. The authorization caps the town's commitment at $82,000 and preserves remaining CRF funds for scheduled future replacements, according to Parsons' presentation.
Next steps: Parsons said he would proceed with the dealer purchase and the town will receive the vehicle after upfitting and transfer of reusable equipment.
