Grantham fire chief to replace one garage door after repeated malfunctions; further replacements planned next year

Fire Chief Justin Hastings told the Board the fire station has recurring problems with bay doors: remotes sometimes trigger the door from inside a cupholder and at other times the doors do not respond, causing personnel to have had to close doors manually and resulting in front-panel delamination and worn weatherstripping.
Hastings said he was able to find room in this year’s budget to replace one door at a cost of a little over $5,000 and intends to request funding next year to replace the remaining doors; Town Administrator Emily Owens confirmed funds are available this year and said replacement will include safety sensors. The chief added the department has emphasized situational awareness during recent trainings.
The Board did not take a separate formal vote beyond confirming funding for the one-door replacement this year; Hastings will proceed with replacement and include additional doors in next year’s budget request.
