Board hears updates on turf testing and TRANE delays; committee work continues

The Governor Wentworth Regional School Board received committee updates Oct. 7 on facility projects and testing related to athletic turf.
Buildings & Maintenance Committee member James Pittman reported on a generator upgrade, the Effingham/Freedom memorandum of understanding and delays on the district’s TRANE project caused by damaged equipment deliveries. He also summarized turf toxicology reports produced by a private company that tested materials similar to Kingswood athletic turf. The committee did not present a final recommendation at the meeting; Ms. Charlene Seibel said she will contact State Representative Wendy Thomas for further information on turf testing and provide that information to the SAU office.
Finance Committee chair Brodie Deshaies reminded the board of upcoming Finance Committee dates on Nov. 12–14 and the district’s planned Dec. 2 preliminary and Jan. 6 final budget-adoption hearings. Human Resources Committee chair Dr. James Manning reported that negotiations are ongoing with the Governor Wentworth Administrative Team (GWAT) and the Governor Wentworth Support Staff Association (GWSSA).
No formal motions or votes were recorded specifically to change project scopes at that time; the reports were presented as committee updates and next steps were assigned to committee members and staff to gather additional information.
