Governor Wentworth Regional School Board approves administrative contract, hires teacher and accepts playground donation

The Governor Wentworth Regional School Board on Oct. 7 voted to approve a four-year contract for the district administrative team, accept a superintendent-nominated teaching appointment and approve a community playground donation.
The actions were taken during a non-public session called at 6:03 p.m. under RSA 91-A to discuss personnel and legal matters; the board recorded a motion approving the four-year administrative team contract (moved by Mary Schillereff, seconded by James Pittman) and a motion accepting Superintendent Caroline Arakelian’s nomination of James Welsh as a 100% teacher for the 2024–2025 school year with a listed salary of $49,044 (Track 1/Step 4) (moved by Guy Pike, seconded by Dr. Elizabeth Sheckler). The motions carried by recorded roll calls included in the minutes.
Returning to open session at 7:00 p.m., the board also voted to accept a donation of a playground from the New Durham School PTO (moved by Dr. Sheckler, seconded by Mr. Pike) and to approve a crowdfunding campaign for the 10th Annual James W. Foley Freedom Run led by Jennifer Murray do Carmo (moved by Mr. Pike, seconded by Ms. Schillereff). All recorded votes on those items were unanimous.
The board’s meeting minutes record the specific motions and roll-call votes; the superintendent was authorized to sign grant agreements where applicable and the motions list the named movers and seconders.
The board also approved routine business including accounts-payable and payroll manifests totaling $5,417,982.07.
The board is scheduled to continue budget planning with a preliminary adoption on Dec. 2, 2024 and a final adoption on Jan. 6, 2025.
