Greenland Conservation Commission approves annual report submission, orders trees and plans wetlands mapping work

At its Jan. 14 meeting the Greenland Conservation Commission approved its submission to the town's annual report and approved minutes from Dec. 10, 2025, while also advancing several administrative and program items for the 2026 monitoring season.
Alice Passer moved to approve the commission's submission to the annual town report; Cindy Hoonhout seconded and the motion carried. Separately, the minutes from the commission's Dec. 10, 2025 meeting were approved on a motion by Alice Passer seconded by Kathleen Babin-Johnson; the minutes record both motions as "carried" but do not list individual vote tallies.
The commission discussed staffing and program logistics for 2026. Kathleen Babin-Johnson will draft an updated job description for the 2026 monitoring-season intern and the group discussed where to post the listing to attract applicants. Cindy Hoonhout reported she placed an order with Chief River Nursery for trees and shrubs for Thompson Brook Trail: 20 jack pine, 40 white pine, 14 June serviceberry bushes and 12 winterberry shrubs, with delivery expected around April 21, 2026, for spring planting.
Under new business the commission directed the Grant Writing Subcommittee to begin searching for potential grants to map Greenland's prime wetlands and identify vernal pools, a recommendation that came from the 2025 natural resources inventory update. Commissioners also discussed the Glen Cove project and asked Alice Passer to contact Cory Riley about possible collaboration.
The meeting adjourned at 4:14 p.m. on a motion from Cindy Hoonhout, seconded by Alice Passer; the minutes record the motion as carried.
