Chief Eric Costa said the grant aligns with the highway safety plan and will fund overtime for focused enforcement in areas of highest complaint or crash risk; the department’s traffic division will determine enforcement location and timing based on crash data and resident complaints. The commission moved, seconded and approved the grant authorization by voice vote.
The chief said the department typically uses overtime-funded patrols for complaints and identified high-need corridors; the grant paperwork will be executed so overtime can be reimbursed as allowed under the federal program.
No additional appropriation was reported at the meeting beyond authorization to execute the grant agreement and proceed with the reimbursable overtime program.
