Epping board backs $14.07 million operating budget; default budget recorded

At the Jan. 20 meeting the Epping Board of Selectmen accepted the town warrant that includes Article 5 proposing a 2026 operating budget of $14,066,120. The meeting record shows the Select Board recommended the article by a 5-0 vote and the Municipal Budget Committee recommended it 9-0.
Town officials also accepted State Form 2026 MS-DTB, which lists the municipality’s default budget at $13,662,241. Selectman Joe Trombley moved to accept the default budget form and Vice-Chair Pamela Tibbetts seconded; the motion carried 5-0.
The warrant materials present the operating budget as the budget to be voted on at the March 10 official ballot; if the operating-budget article is defeated, the default budget would take effect unless the governing body calls a special meeting under RSA 40:13 to propose a revised operating budget.
The board confirmed the schedule for the deliberative session (Feb. 3) and the official ballot vote (March 10). No change to the proposed or default budgets was made at the Jan. 20 meeting.
