Fairfield police announce arrest in June school shooting that killed Jamario Baker

Captain Nicholas McDowell of the Fairfield Police Department announced that law enforcement arrested a suspect in the June 3 murder of Jamario Baker at a graduation at Sam Yeddo continuation school and that the person was detained at a residence in the Dallas area and will be returned to Solano County.
"The individual was arrested this morning and will be transported back to Solano County in the near future," McDowell said, announcing that the arrest followed service of a search warrant and an arrest warrant in Texas carried out with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service and other federal partners.
McDowell said detectives working with citizens, witnesses and partners at the Fairfield Suisun Unified School District provided information that led to identifying the suspect. He said many people provided information and that "there were over 1000 witnesses that day," which investigators credited as helping to solve the case.
When asked about charges, McDowell said he did not have the full list in front of him but that the person had been arrested on a homicide warrant out of the state of California. He confirmed the arrest was made at a residence in the Dallas area and that the operation "went smoothly" with no incidents and with Fairfield detectives present.
McDowell said families of the individuals involved had been notified before information was released. When pressed about timing he gave varying timeframes in his answers, at one point referring to notification "within 10 hours" and later mentioning "within 10 days," and said final timing can be affected by courts and county extradition processes.
McDowell repeatedly said the investigation remains active and that he would not release further investigative details now; he said the department hopes to provide additional information on Monday.
The department did not specify whether anyone else was charged or the number of injured; those details were not provided at the briefing.
