The Governor Wentworth Regional School Board voted March 10 to hold a public hearing to consider accessing the district’s Special Education Trust to cover unanticipated special-education expenses for the 2024–25 school year.
Superintendent Caroline Arakelian presented the request from Dr. Kelly Mask, the Director of Special Education and Counseling Services, citing unanticipated costs this year and the need to discuss use of the trust in public session. Guy Pike moved the motion to hold the hearing and Dr. Elizabeth Sheckler seconded it; the motion passed unanimously.
Public comment elsewhere in the meeting included concerns about communication to families regarding a high-school reassessment pilot program and about special-education-related items, which the Board heard during the public input sections. The minutes do not include a hearing date; the motion authorizes administration to schedule and conduct the public hearing and report back to the Board.
