GWRSD approves ESSER‑funded HVAC upgrades, launches Parentsquare, accepts playground donations and adopts Stay Open Plan

Superintendent Caroline Arakelian told the board that ESSER III funds supported summer programs and near‑complete HVAC projects at three schools; the board approved a communications rollout (Parentsquare), allowed construction of a New Durham playground, accepted a Magic Moments donation for Lakes Region Technical Center, and approved the district Stay Open Plan.
Superintendent Caroline Arakelian told the Governor Wentworth Regional School Board on Sept. 9 that ESSER III grant dollars funded summer programs and supported HVAC upgrades that are nearing completion at Carpenter School, Crescent Lake School and Ossipee Central School.
Arakelian introduced the district's new communications platform, Parentsquare, which the district will use as a single tool for family and school communications; she said a parent advisory group is planned and a communication survey will go out in early October. She also introduced Jack Larson as the student representative for the 2024‑25 school year; Larson provided a summary of high school activities.
On facilities and extracurricular support, the board voted to allow the New Durham PTO to begin construction of a new playground and to accept a donation from Magic Moments for a playground tied to the Careers in Education program at Lakes Region Technical Center. Both motions passed unanimously.
Arakelian also presented the district's updated Stay Open Plan — a requirement tied to ESSER III grants — which includes guiding principles, pathways for learning, COVID‑19 mitigation strategies and social‑emotional supports. The board voted to approve the Stay Open Plan as presented.
The district will proceed with the listed HVAC work and communications rollout; the Superintendent's office will implement the playground agreements with the PTO and the vendor/donor as recorded in the board motions.
