Byron council to camera 550-foot sewer lateral, approves road millings and will revisit utility rates

The Byron Town Council voted Tuesday to hire a contractor to camera a sewer lateral on North Cloud Peak and approved a separate road-millings estimate while deferring several utility-connection requests and a review of recent rate increases.
Mayor Allan Clark told the council the North Cloud Peak lateral is "around 550 feet," and the town needs a camera inspection to locate issues. Councilmember Karma Sanders moved to accept a quote from Tru Pipe to perform the inspection; Mikey Brightly seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The move follows council review of road-repair estimates from Ty Sammons. Councilmembers approved the millings quote after removing one street determined to be outside town limits, with Shae Abraham moving and Brandon Hessenthaler seconding the motion.
Two separate property-utility matters were discussed. Rosanna and Jim Rusch described their construction and compliance needs; the council asked the Rusches for an updated, to-scale plot plan and for the property to be subdivided before further action, and Town Attorney Gregory Costanza was asked to review code definitions. Jared Sanders presented a slideshow asking the town to restore utility connections to his new property at town expense, saying utilities had previously been connected; the council discussed using the Tru Pipe camera to inspect Jared's lines and deferred a decision.
A member of the public asked why utility bills increased this month. Council members discussed the change and agreed to re-examine rates at a Special Meeting in the coming weeks.
No formal vote was recorded on restoring utilities to the Rusch or Sanders properties; the council's immediate actions were limited to ordering inspections and requesting additional documentation. The council also reviewed the Public Works and Court reports but took no action on those items.
The council adjourned after scheduling follow-up discussion on the sheriff contract, utilities and rates at future meetings.
