Cooleemee mayor updates Davie County commissioners on community center progress and library relocation

The town has spent roughly $150,000 on pool demolition and a site survey in preparation for construction.
The design includes a library of about 1,400 square feet, two conference/meeting rooms, a kitchen, an exercise room and a multi-purpose room with a movable wall to subdivide the space. The mayor said the town expects to contribute about 20% of total project costs.
Commissioners praised the project and asked about the timeline and funding. Mayor Smith said bids are being reviewed, a meeting with construction leads was scheduled and the town is working to finalize timelines; he described the June 30 completion target as "aggressive" but still feasible.
Next steps: The mayor will continue to work with county staff and contractors to firm up the groundbreaking schedule and final costs and will keep the board informed.
