Coffee County election officials set early voting hours, approve poll staff and seal absentee boxes ahead of Aug. 6 election

Chairman William Bates opened the Coffee County Election Commission’s June 9 meeting and the commission moved to finalize preparations for the Aug. 6, 2026 election.
The Commission reviewed its quarterly audit of voter registration forms. Administrator Andy Farrar reported the office received 594 registration forms in the second quarter; the commission audited 10% (60 forms) and found no deficient forms. The commission completed the audit form and Farrar will send it to the State Election office as required by the Tennessee Code Annotated, the commissioners said.
Commissioner Emily Thoma moved to set early voting hours at the Election Commission office Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.; hours for CD stamps were set Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. The commission set hours for all Election Day polling locations at 8:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Commissioner Carol Berthay seconded the motion, which passed by unanimous approval of the five participating members: Chairman William Bates, Secretary Barbara Arp, Commissioner Emily Thoma, Commissioner Larry McIntosh and Commissioner Carol Berthay.
Administrator Farrar distributed lists of poll officials, early voting officials, machine technicians and delivery drivers for the Aug. 6 election. Commissioner Carol Berthay moved to approve the lists as presented; Commissioner Larry McIntosh seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The Commission then locked and sealed the absentee and provisional ballot boxes for the Aug. 6 election. Commissioners verified the boxes were empty, each party checked and verified seal numbers, and the Commission signed the certification of seals. Administrator Farrar will mail the certification to the State Coordinator of Elections office as required by T.C.A.
The commission set its next meeting for Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
