Board approves closure of section of Point Road at 3 Rivers Land Trust request

The Davie County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a request to close a portion of Point Road after a public hearing at its April meeting.
Travis Moorehead, executive director of 3 Rivers Land Trust, told the board the Land Trust owns the parcels adjacent to the gated section and wants to shift the gate roughly 1,000 feet to improve security and reduce trespassing. "We're just looking to have the more security for the property and move the gate ... to provide more security for us and having issues with trespassers," Moorehead said.
Planning staff explained the closure followed the county’s public‑notice requirements, including newspaper publication and mailed notices to property owners, and verified the Land Trust owns the affected land. No members of the public opposed the closure during the hearing.
After closing the public comment period, a commissioner moved to approve the closure. The motion carried with a unanimous vote.
The chair said staff will record the formal resolution and the clerk has attached the affidavit of publication to the file. The closure will be implemented as described in the public hearing materials and by county procedural steps for road closings.
