Mannington approves COW RUN route, discusses 2019 trash changes and approves hires and purchases

The Mannington Township Committee on June 7 approved Stand Up For Salem’s request to use township roads for COW RUN 2018, permitting the route to run from about 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Halltown Road, Seabrook Road, Newell Road and Old Kings Highway.
Mayor Asay reported anticipated changes to the township’s trash and recycling arrangement for 2019. He said the current contractor (LAC) will not replace the truck that collects bins at the school, which will require the school to arrange its own hauler beginning January 2019. Committee members discussed possible coordination with Oldmans Township and replacement of the township’s 2006 automatic truck in 2019.
In personnel and procurement actions the committee approved hiring Christopher DeHaan. It also authorized purchase of two agricultural tires with rims (to replace turf tires on the John Deere) for up to $500; the tire purchase passed on a recorded vote of Asay yes, Patrick yes, Emel yes.
The mayor noted that lower branches on trees along Hackett Road need trimming. The public comment period produced no speakers.
