The Mannington Township Committee voted on June 7 to amend its 2018 capital budget to add a municipal road resurfacing project with a total cost of $280,450. The motion, made by Patrick and seconded by Emel, passed on a roll call vote of Asay yes, Patrick yes and Emel yes.
The budget amendment lists $135,450 from the Township's Capital Improvement Fund and $145,000 to be authorized as debt for the project. Committee members recorded the figures when adopting the resolution to correct and insert the item into the 2018 capital budget.
The committee also adopted Ordinance No. 18-05 on first reading, appropriating $280,450 for resurfacing municipal roads within Mannington Township. The ordinance passed the first reading on the same 3-0 roll call and the committee scheduled a public hearing on the ordinance for July 2, 2018 at 5:30 p.m.
The decision follows discussion in which the committee previously determined which sections of Compromise Road should be put out for bid, and the committee agreed to advertise the base bid along with Alternate Bids No. 1 and No. 2. The mayor and finance staff received the Summary Budget Status as of June 7, 2018, which was entered into the record.
Next steps include accepting bids on the advertised sections and returning to the committee for award and contract authorization after the public hearing and required bid evaluations. The ordinance remains subject to final adoption following the scheduled hearing.
