Alexandria council holds second readings of comprehensive plan and proposed social media policy

The council conducted second readings on June 16 of two governance items: Resolution 2026-19, the 2026 Village of Alexandria Comprehensive Plan, and Resolution 2026-20, a proposed social media policy.
Mayor Sean Barnes described the comprehensive plan as a guide to facilitate orderly development, help current and future councils make zoning and building decisions, and protect existing village character while identifying areas suitable for change. Barnes said the plan "gives us the ability to dictate what happens to the future of the village."
On the social media policy, Councilwoman Sarah Chambers asked whether the policy imposes restrictions on what council members can post online. Administrator Kendra Borror said the policy applies to council members, employees and volunteers and directs the type of comments expected to maintain professionalism and serve the best interest of the village even when individuals are on personal time.
Neither resolution was recorded as adopted during the meeting; both items were at second reading and will return for subsequent action.
