The Board of Mayor and Commissioners voted unanimously on July 8 to approve a contract with Loudoun Communications Inc. to buy five in‑car radios for the Avondale Estates Police Department for $24,002.95.
City staff (City Manager, speaker 1) told the board the purchase is needed because radios repurposed from older vehicles have reached the end of their useful life and “can no longer be serviced.” The chair moved to approve the contract; a commissioner identified the motion-maker and seconder during roll call, and the chair called for a voice vote, which passed with five ayes.
The purchase will allow the department to outfit newer vehicles and retire equipment that is no longer serviceable. The city noted the vendor is on a state contract accepted for this type of equipment, enabling the procurement under the applicable purchasing rules.
