Committee authorizes agreements with Wiring Unlimited for plant electrical services and pump-station upgrades

Wastewater Superintendent Ed Haller told the Utilities Committee that the city will bring legislation in two weeks to authorize a replacement professional-services contract with Wiring Unlimited, Inc., and a separate contract to upgrade eight pump stations so they operate under Mission Communications.
Haller said the Wiring Unlimited contract replaces last year’s agreement and reflects an increase ‘‘from $215 to $235’’ (units not specified in the record) to account for price changes. He described Wiring Unlimited as the plant electrician responsible for automation, computer monitoring and pump-station maintenance.
On the pump-station upgrades, Haller said the city needs to migrate older sites from the Data Command platform (installed about 20 years ago) to Mission Communications to centralize operations and reduce long-term operating costs. He said three pump stations already have been converted; eight more require upgrades. ‘‘Roughly $13,500 per pump station on average is what they anticipate,’’ Haller said, and characterized the work as a capital improvement rather than routine maintenance.
Clerk of Council Helen Dunlap requested a motion when the legislation is formally presented; Chair Mary Gorjanc moved and Vice Chair Joanne Krejci seconded to authorize the agreements to move forward. The motion carried: Yeas 3; Nays 0. Haller said staff will present the formal ordinances after the required budget amendment is prepared.
