Brunswick reports rising permit activity, water leak detection rollout and steady EMS response times

Town department heads used the July 9 meeting to summarize recent operational data and ongoing projects.

Building and zoning: Kevin Manello reported the department completed 119 inspections in June, has 430 active open permits and issued 30 new permits during the month. He said FOIL/search requests have increased staff workload and noted several older projects lack final inspections, which delays certificates of occupancy; owners must sometimes hire engineers or consultants to complete reviews before the town can close files.

Water and sewer: Bradley reported continued monitoring of stormwater projects and said the Quick Check site is approaching punch‑list completion. He described a leak‑detection sensor rollout that has all but 13 sensors installed (the system has roughly 220 sensors in total), and said GIS logging of pump‑station checks will help identify leaks. Bradley estimated it will take about six months of logged data to quantify water savings; he said daily pumped volumes are "down from where we were last year, 100 and a 150,000 gallons a day," indicating a substantial reduction though the exact figure is evolving as monitoring continues.

Highway: Highway Superintendent Mike described routine maintenance work (mowing, brush pickup, crack sealing), limited paving in local developments and coordinated hauling of blacktop to assist a neighboring community; he said National Grid finished gas work in one area and the town will coordinate cleanup or repairs.

EMS: Mark presented ambulance statistics for June: 97 EMS calls (95 covered by Brunswick EMS, two by North Greenbush Ambulance) with a mean dispatch time of 9 minutes 4 seconds; high‑priority calls averaged 8 minutes 28 seconds. He also provided a January–June total of 557 EMS calls and similar mid‑year response figures.

Board members moved to accept the reports by voice vote and proceeded to other business, including several routine resolutions.
