Construction at Sherman School about 30–40% complete; Newfield targets partial move-in by Christmas

John Flis, project executive for Newfield, told the School Building Committee on May 18 that the Sherman School renovation is roughly 30–40% complete on work in place. He said the structure is erected, much of the visible progress is interior work and substantial work remains underground and on systems that are not street-visible.
Flis said the contractor expects change-order frequency to decline as the project moves forward and that Newfield is attempting to shift certain items from Phase 2B into Phase 2A where feasible. He and Project Engineer Max Halberg said roof work has begun and that OSHA’s safety consultant routinely visits the site and has identified no notable safety concerns.
Newfield continues to plan a phased occupancy with move-in to renovated areas targeted for Christmas 2026. Phase 2B completion remains largely unchanged with an anticipated finish in Spring 2028. Antinozzi Associates’ Principal Architect Michael LoSasso said his firm is coordinating submittals with the school’s technology representative Jake Siciliano; FF&E and technology submittals are scheduled for PCR review on June 17.
The committee thanked Newfield for progress amid weather and equipment delays but did not make any new schedule commitments at the meeting.
